History
Founded in 1983 by John Hykes, Janice Shimmin and John Shimmin, Accu-sembly began in a family garage. The three of them assembled alarm systems as a favor for an uncle and a little extra spending money. A few months later, a young John Hykes, who had graduated from Cal Poly Pomona as a mechanical engineer, felt that with dedication and a hard working family to support him he could start a small manufacturing business. His mother and Janice did the bookkeeping, while he and his father made sales calls. To accommodate their modest, yet expanding business they soon hired their first employee and rented a 1,000 sq ft warehouse with holes in its walls.

By 1986, the company needed to relocate in order to house 18 employees and its ever expanding customer base. Accu-sembly, Inc. then moved to a 5,000 sq ft shop in El Monte, CA. This allowed the company to add more innovative machinery and an eventual purchase of its first SMT assembly line in 1991. By 1997, the company had 50 employees and multiple SMT assembly lines, requiring Accu-sembly to move to its current location in Duarte.

Facilities
Accu-sembly is now located in a beautiful 25,000+ sq ft facility in Duarte, California. It is temperature and humidity controlled in order to eliminate electrostatic discharge (ESD), and also for the comfort and efficiency of our employees. Great care is taken at Accu-sembly to prevent ESD with conductive floors, work surfaces and extensive employee training.

The manufacturing area has been designed to minimize manual handling of materials and labor. We have undertaken several initiatives to optimize product flow throughout the facility, minimizing distance and time to move from one operation to the next, as well as utilizing a lean 5S system to put product and tools where they are needed when they are needed. This means less labor for us and a cost saving for you.

As of 2010, the company has expanded even further, roughly doubling its assembly area. Additional SMT lines were added and positioned for maximum efficiency with the existing production floor.
